Yugo Heater Core |
A compact vehicle such as the Yugo automobile has similar basic comfort amenities that bigger and more luxurious vehicles have. One of the basic comfort amenities that the Yugo automobile offers is its internal climate control system. Being a small car, it is always at the mercy of the elements. Heat can easily escape its interior. Conversely, cold climate outside can easily lower the internal temperature of the Yugo. It is surprising how this little car manages to remain functional even when the temperature is too frigid, cold enough to freeze the engine. Engine output is relatively low at only 65 horsepower. However, even with this meager amount of power, the engine is still capable of delivering enough thermal energy to resist cold temperature.
It is the same engine that maintains the comfortable temperature inside the vehicle when it is too cold outside. Providing heat for the living compartment of the vehicle is indirectly done by the Yugo engine through the Yugo heater core. This heater core is the functional unit of the heating system of the Yugo automobile. The heater core is located in the dashboard of the vehicle along with the electric fan blower. The heater core is very much similar to the main radiator of the vehicle. In fact, it is actually a small radiator. However, its function is different from the automobile main radiator. It is not even part of the cooling system of the automobile engine.
Although the heater core utilizes the same principles as the main radiator, it does not simply collect the coolant to dissipate the heat or reduce the heat of the engine block. Its main purpose is to redistribute the excess heat from the engine block to be used inside the vehicle. Heat is allowed to circulate inside the vehicle by blowing air on the heater core. An electric fan blows air on the heater core. Unlike the radiator fan, the heater core fan is not driven by the camshaft. It is instead driven by the electrical power from the batteries. This allows the driver to operate the heater using an electrical switch. The water pump that circulates the coolant in the heater core is also electrically-powered.
Both the blower fan and water pump of the heater core are electrically-powered. They are also connected to each other. The two components share the same switch. Hence, when the blower fan is switched off, the water pump of the heater core will automatically switch off. Clogging is one of the main reasons why heater cores malfunction. It is better to totally replace a clogged heater core that to try fixing it. Parts Train can provide you a variety of internal climate control components, including heater cores, for different vehicles.
