Acura RSX Heater Core

Hence, you need to maintain the AC System for the hot weather condition and the Heater core for the cold weather condition. You may consider AC system as a very familiar arrangement of parts but with the heating system, a lot of questions would come along.

Acura RSX Heater Core is the device used to heat up the cabin of your vehicle. Like the radiator, it uses a coolant coming from the engine and driven through the winding tubes. As another type of heat exchanger in your Acura vehicle, it consists of fins and fans that hasten heat transfer. Normally, the heater core is placed under the dashboard with the conductive aluminum tubing with cooling fins. The hot coolant channeled through it gives off heat before returning to the engine cooling circuit. The fans provide ventilation to drive air through the heater core so that heat is transferred from the coolant to the cabin air.

Heater cores are made up of countless piping and bends that may get clogged with precipitates in time. Clogging may happen when the coolant system is not flushed regularly. Once this occurs on your Acura RSX Heater Core, the coolant flow will be restricted and the heating capacity will be reduced or totally lost. The piping and small tubes are not the only parts that get clogged because even the valves that are used to vent off heat may also get stuck. Aside from clogging, leakage is also one big problem in a heater core. This is usually manifested by the smell of ethylene glycol (coolant with a sweet smell). This coolant may cause fogging in the windshield, above the windshield heater vents.

When any signs of heater core damages is observed in your vehicle, have it replaced at once to avoid encountering inconveniences especially during cold weather conditions. Installation may take time so better yet, have the new heater core installed by a qualified mechanic.
