The headlight among others is the pair of lights mounted at the front end of an automobile, usually one on both ends of the grille. They are used to provide clear illumination of the road ahead during poor visibility situations. Such headlight features two kinds of lighting beams to be used for varying needs. The two beams are the high beam and the low beam.

The high beam is capable of casting most of its light straight ahead, and covers wider scope of illumination. It is often used when there are no oncoming vehicles so as to avoid glaring effects to other drivers. The low beam on the other hand has a more stringent control of the upward light and casts most of its light downward and either, rightward in-right traffic countries or leftward in left-traffic countries to provide safe forward visibility or lesser glaring or back dazzle effect.
