There are some cars though that have engines at the rear end of the car, thus, the fuel tank is mounted on the front compartment.

The tank has inlet and outlet pipes, found at the bottom and at the top or side of the tank, respectively. Sediments are collected at the lower end of the tank, which is about one-half inch above the bottom of the tank so that it won’t go straight to the carburetor. Inside the tank, there are baffles that control the flow of fuel, preventing it from spilling back and forth the tank. From 1970, the law required that fuel tanks must be vented through charcoal canister into the engine to avoid hydrocarbon emissions. Also it was regulated that autos must be equipped with rollover protection devices that prevent fuel spills.
