Carburetors were first used as fuel injection system but because of its inefficiency to determine and balance the right air and fuel ratio, fuel injectors were used instead. It is mounted in the car’s intake manifold usually paired with one injector per cylinder. Features may vary depending on the car make or model or the purpose intended by the owner. For Rolls Royce, fuel injector system is actually one of its stand-out features.
Rolls Royce fuel injection system uses an electric fuel pump to supply fuel into the engine. Electrically controlled pumps are usually positioned inside the fuel tank to be part of the fuel sending unit. Mechanical fuel pumps are also used which commonly come for carburetor operated vehicles. It is positioned on the engine block and is operated using a camshaft. The fuel generated by the fuel pump, may it be a mechanical or an electronic one, must first go through a series of steel lines. It then goes through the fuel filter to remove particles of metals, dirt , small rocks and other elements found in the fuel. Even a small microscopic particle can block or restrict the passage of fuel into the injector that is why the filter must be regularly checked.
After passing through the fuel filter, the fuel will then pass on to the fuel injectors or carburetors. For carburetor operated cars, the fuel must be combined with air to optimize the combustion process. There are times however when the fuel injector plays to perform its task due to several factors. One of those are small particles that could have escaped from the fuel filter. You may not actually notice it at once until you observed that there is something wrong in your fuel injection system. It may even require the help of an auto mechanic to discover a defective fuel injector. And it could mean that you are using your car with a defective injector which can actually lead to further complications and damages. That is why, it is preferable to take your car regularly to an auto mechanic to check out and see if any of the components making up your Rolls Royce fuel injection system is in need of repair or replacement.
Flushing the fuel system can be done but it may not actually solve the problem. It may work well for a couple of months but still, you can be confronted with the same problem. In such case, replacement is still the best choice. Just come and visit Partstrain in case you need one, especially if you don’t want to spend that much.
