Ford Fan Shroud

The cooling system is one of the most important systems included in Ford vehicles. The main function of this system is to eliminate about one-third of the heat which is generated in the engine. Without this system, the vehicle’s engine can overheat and thus cause delay to your travel because it will take a while before you can cool it down. In addition, an overheating engine can cause serious engine troubles in the future that is why it is important that the cooling system should be in good condition at all times. The cooling system is composed of principal components such as the pressure cap, thermostat, water pump, radiator, hoses and fan. These components, on the other hand, still include subparts which very much include the Ford fan shroud.

The Ford fan shroud is a key part of the engine’s cooling system because it prevents recirculation of air around the cooling fan. Normally, it is a hood made of plastic which encloses the fan to significantly direct the air through the core and prevent it from coming back. When you are traveling down the road, air is forced through the radiator because of the pressure of the car moving. And since the vehicle is at speed, you usually don’t need much of fan shroud because there is enough air to keep the radiator cool. However, when the vehicle is stopped at a red light or when you dropped by at a nearby store to buy some stuff without having to turn the engine off, then a cooling fan and fan shroud are needed to move the air. These move air through the radiator which helps in cooling the engine.

But just like any engine cooling component, the Ford fan shroud can also get damaged after some time. A defective fan shroud, although it won’t affect the entire operation of the cooling system, at idle or cruising speeds, still should be repaired or replaced so that the cooling system will work at its optimum. An unshrouded fan is moving air through only that portion of the radiator equal to the surface area of the fan and not the entire radiator. So, this means that still it is better to have a fan shroud.
