Renault Radiator Fan Clutch

Without your Renault fan clutch, your engine would overheat and fail.  By rotating the fan at just the right speed, the fan clutch guarantees that your fan will rotate at the perfect speed needed to keep the engine from overheating.  If you suspect that your fan clutch is worn or broken, there are a couple things you can check.  First, check the fan clutch for oil streaks.  Even if these oil streaks have been covered in dust, it means that the internal fluid that supplies your clutch action is leaking.  You can also check for a worn bearing by turning the engine off and handling the fan blade.  Try moving it from side to side.  If you can move it more than ¼” the bearing is worn down and your fan clutch needs to be replaced.  Another easy way to check if your fan clutch is operating correctly is to run the engine until it’s reached its operating temperature.  Then, turn the engine off and manually spin the fan blade.  If the fan blade spins more than twice, it’s a sign that the clutch is worn and needs to be replaced.
