to rotate the fan at the precise speed needed to keep your engine from overheating.

overheat and fail. There are many ways to tell if your Porsche fan clutch is
worn or broken. The first thing you should do is check to see if there are oil
streaks on the fan clutch. These oil streaks may be covered with dust and are
a definite sign of internal fluid leak. If you haven’t found a problem with that
test, it’s time to check if your bearing is worn. To do this, the engine should
be off. Check to see if the fan blade moves side to side. If you’ve got more
than ¼ inches of movement, it’s a clue that the bearing is worn and the fan clutch
needs to be replaced.
