Merkur Fan Clutch |
| A worn Merkur fan clutch could cause your engine to overheat. Your fan clutch’s
primary function is to ensure the fan will rotate at the perfect speed to keep
the engine from overheating. There are many tell tale signs that your fan clutch
needs to be replaced. The most tell-tale sign of a worn fan clutch is oily streaks.
Whether you’ve got fresh or dusty oil streaks on your fan clutch, it has to be
replaced. Now is a good time to also check if your bearing is worn. While the
engine is off, move it laterally with your hand. If you’ve got more than ¼” movement,
the bearing is worn down and the fan clutch should be replaced. You can also
check to see if your fan clutch is operating the way it should by first turning
on the engine and letting it run until it’s reached its operating temperature.
Then, spin the fan blade gently. A fan blade rotation of twice; a noisy, rough
rotation, or no rotation at all are all indicators that your fan clutch needs
to be replaced. |
