Ferrari Radiator Fan Clutch

If you suspect there’s a problem with your Ferrari fan clutch, there are a few ways you can find out for sure.  The function of a fan clutch is to make sure the fan rotates at a precise speed continuously to keep your engine from overheating.  Your first test to find out if you’ve got a worn fan clutch is visual.  Look at your fan clutch and check for oil streaks.  The oil streaks may be fresh or dusty.  Either way, if you’ve got oil streaks, the internal fluid that provides clutch action is leaking.  A worn bearing is also easy to spot.  While your engine is off, you can grab the fan blade with your hand and try to wiggle it side-to-side.  If there is more than ¼” of movement, then your bearing is worn and you need to replace the entire unit.  You can also run the engine until it’s reached its operating temperature, then turn the engine off.  Manually spin the fan blade gently.  A rotation of twice or more means that the clutch is worn and should be replaced.
