Overheating problem is perhaps one of the most hassling things that a driver has to deal with sooner or later. Although overheating problems can definitely be prevented, it would still be advantageous on one’s part to know what causes this problem and how to deal with it in case it arises. We have to know first what causes overheating. There several factors to consider but the most important ones are the coolant level, thermostat, radiator and the cooling fan. Each of these components plays an important role in making sure that the vehicle’s cooling system maintains the needed temperature under any operating condition.

The coolant is a complex chemical liquid that allows the engine to run at higher and lower temperatures than plain water would otherwise allow. It makes the car more flexible in accommodating temperature ranges, thus increases the temperature when the fluid would start to boil. The thermostat is a little temperature-sensitive spring valve that provides control for the engine’s warm-up period. It stays closed and prevents the coolant from leaving the engine and circulating through the radiator until the correct running temperature is reached. The radiator is a device designed to dissipate which the coolant has absorbed from the engine, and cools the engine once it has reached the operating temperature. It is a heat exchanger crafted to hold a large amount of water in tubes or passages which give a large area in contact with the atmosphere.

The above mentioned components are definitely the key players of the car’s cooling system. Without them or their failure to function properly would result to various problems. However, there is still one more component that is as important as the previous ones – the cooling fan! This component is a multi-blade device that is mounted between the radiator and the engine, and rotates hastily to cool an engine by pulling air through the radiator. Usually, vehicles only have a single cooling fan, but some vehicles use an additional fan in front of the radiator to push even more cool air toward the engine. Each of these fans has a fan blade that is responsible for drawing as much air through the radiator.

Fan blades like the Chrysler fan blade is a propeller-like component of the cooling fan assembly that projects at an angle from the central hub. These blades are usually made from high-grade plastic materials. Some vehicles feature four-bladed cooling fans while others feature as much as eleven-bladed fans.
