Peugeot is a French automobile brand that has roots in bicycle manufacturing. Peugeot automobile brand is the second oldest automobile brand in the world. It started as a company manufacturing bicycles in 1882. Armand Peugeot, the founder of the Peugeot bicycle company later became very interested in automobiles. In collaboration with Leon Serpollet and others, Peugeot introduced the first Peugeot automobile in 1889. This automobile was a three-wheeled steam-powered car. Its steering system is basically based on tiller system, which is very similar to boat tillers. The main reason for this arrangement is the rear location of the engine. This steam-powered car was heavy and required meticulous and time-consuming preparation before running. Hence, it was not a commercial or practical success. It was replaced by the more efficient petrol-powered internal combustion engine. In 1890, Peugeot introduced the first four-wheeled car. It was powered by Daimler engine. Peugeot pioneered most of the features we now take for granted in modern cars. Peugeot exhaust, for instance, was the innovator of the modern exhaust system.

Pioneering automobiles were very similar to horse-drawn carriages, minus the horse. The horse was replaced by the steam-powered or fuel-powered engine. Peugeot exhaust system was more efficient than previous exhaust systems. Basically, it featured exhaust pipes that vertically channeled exhaust gases away from the engine, much similar to the chimney of locomotives. Later designs featured horizontally oriented exhaust pipes that channeled exhaust gases to the rear of the vehicle. Peugeot pioneered the predecessor of modern muffler. Modern exhaust systems are largely based on the Peugeot designs. Basically, modern Peugeot exhaust system is comprised of the exhaust manifold, the exhaust pipes, the catalytic converter, the muffler and the tail pipe.

The exhaust manifold is a branching exhaust pipe with individual branch connected to the individual cylinders of the engine. It collects the exhaust gases from the combustion chambers and channels these gases to the exhaust pipe leading to the tail pipe exit. After being collected from the combustion chambers, the exhaust gases are channeled to the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter has a ceramic honeycomb structure inside coated with platinum, rhodium and palladium. These metals act as catalysts that facilitate the elimination of pollutants in the exhaust gas. After passing through the catalytic converter, the exhaust gases are then channeled to the muffler. Hot exhaust gases carry the explosive noise of combustion. The main role of the muffler is to reduce this noise by destructive interference. Finally, the exhaust gases exit the tailpipe as white smoke.

If any of the exhaust components of your vehicle broke-down, Parts Train has the solution. We offer the widest selection of aftermarket automotive parts at very affordable price. Simply browse our online catalog to search for the exhaust component that you need.
