The air enters through the air cleaner, to the throttle plate and to the intake manifold towards the cylinder. The fuel injection system adds fuel to the air while in older cars, the carburetor takes charge of this. Then air and fuel are mixed and burned to convert the expanding force of the combustion into rotary force that would propel the car wheels. Fours strokes of the piston indicate an event in the cycle: intake stroke, compression stroke, power stroke and exhaust stroke. First the mixture is drawn into the combustion chamber, compressed, ignited causing the piston to move the crankshaft and lastly, exhaust gas is sent out of the vehicle though he exhaust system.
