At the very heart of the engine system is the set of cylinders. The arrangement of these cylinders determines the type of the engine and inside each cylinder is the piston that continually moves up and down. Engines can be categorized as inline, V or flat, which describes how the cylinders are arranged in the engine. The cylinder and the piston are just two of the collection of Acura MDX engine parts included in your auto. Other engine parts include the spark plug, which is the one responsible for harnessing the spark that could combust the air and fuel mixture. In order to achieve optimum engine competency, the spark plug must ensure that the combustion starts at the right moment.

Another set of Acura MDX engine parts is the intake and exhaust valves. The engine valves’ opening and closing must be timed in order to facilitate the timed supply of air and fuel mixture to the engine and the exit of the exhaust to the exhaust system. When the fuel compression and combustion processes are ongoing, the intake and exhaust valves must be closed. Yet another engine part is the piston ring. The piston ring is placed in between the cylinder and the piston so that the piston will slide smoothly inside the cylinder as it goes up and down. Piston rings tend to serve two purposes, one is to keep the air and fuel mixture in the combustion area from spilling into the sump and the other is to prevent the sump oil from gaining access into the combustion chamber.

One of the Acura MDX engine parts is the connecting rod that establishes a link between the piston and the crankshaft. The connecting rod has two ends that can rotate to change its angling once the piston moves and the crankshaft spins. The engine crankshaft is the device that could convert the up and down motion of the piston into circular motion. Meanwhile, the engine sump is used to cover the crankshaft and encloses enough amount of oil. A popular part of the sump is the oil pan found at the bottom.
