Perhaps the most important part of your emissions control system is the Infiniti oxygen sensor.  Any Infiniti built after 1980 has an oxygen sensor built into it.  Your oxygen sensor is the part of the emissions control system that sends important information to the engine management computer.  The oxygen sensor helps your vehicle to maintain low emissions and helps your engine to run efficiently.  It reads the air to fuel ratio and reports its findings to the engine’s computer.  If the ratio has too much air in it, it is considered a lean mixture.  A rich mixture is the result of too little air in the ratio.  Either way, the oxygen sensor would sense this ratio and send the information.  The engine computer will then correct the problem by adjusting the fuel to balance back out the ratio.  If your oxygen sensor has stopped working properly, you may experience surging, poor acceleration, hesitation, poor engine performance, or emissions test failure.
