An ignition wire set may be purchased as an aftermarket product to replace the original wire set of the automobile ignition system. Ignition wires have multiple layers of insulation to prevent short circuit and potential electrocution. Ignition wires carry high voltage of electricity that can easily melt ordinary insulations. Typically, there are three layer of insulation. The first layer is foam material, the second layer is asbestos or any heat resistant material and the third layer is silicon rubber. These layers of insulations also prevent the emission of radio frequency. Radio frequency can cause havoc on the electronic system of the automobile such as the onboard computer. Radio frequency is induced by the high voltage of electricity that flows in the ignition wires. High voltage electricity induces a magnetic field. The electrical and magnetic fields are always perpendicular. Oscillations on these fields can cause the electromagnetic induction of radio frequency. The oscillations on these fields are caused by the rapid on and off succession of electrical distribution. Each sparkplug is connected to the distributor cap by an ignition wire. The distributor is a special switch that is responsible for the rapid sequence of electrical distribution to the spark plugs. A rotor is located inside the distributor. This rotor has at least two brush conductors. The rotor is powered by the camshaft of the engine. Hence, it rotates half the rotational rate of the crankshaft. This allows the sparkplugs to fire in correct sequence and timing with reference to the motions of the pistons and valves. Around the inner wall of the distributor cap are carbon conductors. Each carbon conductor corresponds to a sparkplug. The rotor brushes do not touch the carbon conductors as the rotor rotates. However, the high voltage electricity jumps the gap between the rotor brush and carbon conductor. This arrangement reduces friction and mechanical drag. Hence, the distributor rotor can spin more freely. As you turn the ignition key of your vehicle, you are effectively completing the ignition circuit. Initially low voltage of electricity flows from the automobile batteries. Low voltage electricity is not enough to power the other ignition components. However, the ignition coil amplifies the voltage of electricity several times. The voltage can reach as high as 100,000 volts in the sparkplugs. The electricity from the batteries is routed to the starter motor. The starter motor is a small electric motor that initially turns the crankshaft to begin ignition. On the other hand, the high voltage electricity is sent to the sparkplugs via the distributor. All of these will not be possible without the ignition wire set.
