But when the latch is down, no matter how much force you are going exert, you cannot open the door because at that moment, the door handle is disengaged from the opening system.

When the door is locked, some ways to open it are: through a key; by way of pulling up the knob positioned on the inside panel of the door; by means of a signal coming from a control center; by pressing the unlock button found inside the car's cabin; via a keyless-entry remote control; and through the use of combination lock on the outside of the door. For cars with power door locks, locking and unlocking the doors are very easy because it is the lock or the unlock switch that delivers power to the actuators so that the doors can be opened.
