Kia Sorento Distributor |
The ignition system is one of the most important systems in your vehicle. It totally defeats the purpose of getting the automobile as a mode of transportation if the ignition system does not do its main function of starting the vehicle running. But there are several components and factors to consider such as timing, spark, ignition coil, distributors and many others. A wrong timing ignition fire can cause power to fall as well as increase gas consumption and fuel emission.
The distributor routes high voltage from the ignition coil to the spark plugs in the correct firing order. It is a device of the ignition system that consists of a rotating arm or rotor inside the distributor cap, on top of the distributor shaft, but insulated from it and the body of the vehicle. The central high voltage cable is contacted by the metal part of the rotor via a spring loaded carbon brush. The metal part of the rotor passes close the output contact without touching it which connects via high tension cables to the spark plug of each cylinder. Electrical current is able to jump or arc the small gaps, because of the high voltage pulse created by the ignition coil, between the rotor arm and the contacts as the rotor spins within the distributor. This continues down the spark-plug wire to the spark plug on the appropriate cylinder.
The distributor has a cam which is a part of a rotating wheel or shaft that strikes a lever at one or more points in its circular path. The cam of the distributor shaft operates the contact breaker. The high induction voltage in the ignition coil of the system is caused by opening the points. The centrifugal advance unit which is a set of hinged weights connected to the distributor shaft is housed in the distributor. This set causes the breaker points mounting plate to slightly rotate and advance the spark timing with higher engine revolutions per minute or rpm. The distributor also has a vacuum advance unit and a capacitor attached to it. The capacitor is connected parallel to the breaker points, to suppress sparking and prevent wear of the points.
Heat and vibration can cause the distributor to malfunction causing your car to hesitate or stumble especially during acceleration. To keep your vehicle running at its best, you need to get a quality distributor. At Parts Train we have superior quality Kia Sorento Distributor built to be reliable and durable and designed to give you a good performance.
