The performance of a Jeep vehicle's engine is always a major concern for its
owner. Why? Because if the engine is not functioning properly, the Jeep vehicle
is virtually useless. Real sport/utility vehicles like Jeep vehicles are expected
to capably cross all sorts of paths, even those that contemporary car-based SUVs
cannot. And for this function, they would rely much on the power that the engine
gives off. If the engine cannot give off its utmost power, how can it possibly
help the SUV to negotiate the humps and hollows of the off-road track?
So what have a Jeep owner to do if the engine of his vehicle is not working properly?
A lot of checks and repairs, of course! Sometimes, however, the poor performance
of vehicle engines is not caused by the engine or the various engine parts themselves.
Instead, such mediocre performance may be caused by damage on the various other
parts and systems related to the engine. The poor performance of a cooling system
part, for example, may adversely affect the engine's normal performance. And
so would a malfunctioning Jeep distributor, because it is probably the most important
part of the ignition system for Jeep vehicles that have these components.
But what is a distributor? A distributor is an ignition system component used
on vintage and some late-model vehicles to route pulses of high voltage current
from the vehicle's ignition coil to the spark plugs in each cylinder of the vehicle's
engine. Distributors are usually composed of two parts: the distributor cap that
holds the spark plug coil contacts that leads to the individual spark plugs, and
the distributor rotor that is connected to the the ignition coil by a large cable.
From the ignition coil, high voltage pulses are delivered to the rotor, which
the rotor would then deliver to the various spark plug contacts in the correct
firing order.
Many modern ignitions systems no longer use distributors to deliver the high voltage
pulses to the various spark plugs. These distributorless ignition systems would
rather make use of the engine management computer to control the firing order
of the spark plug coils. Because of this, there is really no way for us to tell
if some mysterious problem on your Jeep's engine is caused by the distributor.
However, if your Jeep is equipped with one and the pistons are not firing normally,
then it is very likely that your Jeep distributor has a problem.
The function of the distributor in distributor-type ignition systems is very important.
So if your Jeep's distributor has a problem, it is advisable that you replace
them at once. Here at Parts Train, we won't make that search for a replacement
Jeep distributor difficult for you. Just check out our website and in just a
