Like many other Japanese automobile brands, the Acura has become a popular buzz word that is associated with luxury. This brand is manufactured and marketed in the US, Canada and Hong Kong by the Honda Corporation since 1986. It has also been introduced to Mexico in 2004 and to China in 2006. Ironically, Honda Corporation only recently decided to market it in Japan by 2008. Before the introduction of the Acura, Japanese Automobile exports were mainly economical in design and targeted the low-cost consumers. However, if there is a vestige of low-cost design in the Acura, it would be the cooling system, particularly the Acura Cooling Fan.
Acura Cooling Fan did not deviate much from the standard and economical Japanese design. No other Acura engine component could be as minimalist as the Acura Cooling Fan. In most Acura model, the cooling fan is driven by the crankshaft via a pulley system. The cooling fan provides ventilation for the radiator thereby effectively dissipating heat. Heat escapes more freely from the radiator because of the air that the cooling fan allows to circulate. As the air hits the vanes of the radiator, miniature vortex is created on the surface of the radiator. The heat from the radiator coolant is then transferred to the air.
Since the cooling fan itself does not have a power source of its own for it depends only on the crankshaft pulley, it needs a control system. It cannot keep on spinning. Otherwise, the coolant temperature might sink below the ideal temperature level. Although there is a thermostat valve that regulates the coolant flow, the cooling fan also has its own thermostat. This thermostat works as clutch. When the engine block temperature sinks below the ideal level, the thermostat clutch disengages the crankshaft pulley, thereby stopping the cooling fan. On the other hand, if the engine block temperature rises above the ideal temperature, the thermostat clutch re-engages the crankshaft pulley, thereby starting the cooling fan. The thermostat generally operates as a mechanical device. However, there are thermostat that are electronically operated.
Without the thermostat clutch, the temperature of the radiator cannot be regulated. The cooling fan will keep on spinning without regard to the ideal temperature. This will result in the eventual engine power loss. Piston motion will slow down as a result of the reduction in the compressive pressure inside the combustion chamber. Simple as it may seem, the Acura cooling fan serves an important role in regulating the temperature of the engine. Here at Partstrain, you can choose from a wide array of options from our catalog.
