The clutch is an assembly composed of the flywheel which is connected to the engine, the clutch plate that is connected to the transmission with a bar, the pressure plate, studs, diaphragm spring, throw out bearing, clutch housing, release fork, and bell housing. When your foot applies pressure on the clutch pedal, a cable or a hydraulic piston pushes on the release fork, which in turn presses the throw out bearing against the middle of the diaphragm spring, pushing it in and causing the spring to pull the pressure plate away from the clutch disc. This motion releases the clutch from the spinning engine.
The tough function of your Jaguar clutch usually exposes it to the negative effects of contaminants, and it typically wears out through years of service. Although regular maintenance can lengthen the life of the clutch, you cannot prevent it from aging. Cracks and wear may occur after a long time, in which case you must find a replacement before hitting the road again.
