Luxury and performance combined—that’s what you’ll find in every vehicle that BMW manufactures. There has never been any other automobile brand that was able to offer the same blend of luxuriousness and performance as BMW has. For this reason, many BMW owners would like to take advantage of the added ‘performance’ aspect in their luxury vehicle. And there’s no better way to take advantage of the power that BMW vehicles offer than having the manual transmission unit.
A very important element in the drivetrain of a BMW manual transmission vehicle unit is the clutch. The clutch is that part which engages or disengages the vehicle’s manual transmission unit to the engine. When engaged, the transmission would rotate in the same speed that the engine’s crankshaft rotates. The transmission, on the other hand, would transfer this speed to the vehicle’s wheels at varying levels, depending on the initial gear position that was set before the clutch was engaged. When disengaged, the transmission would be separated from the engine. This motion allows your vehicle to sit still while the engine is running, and also allows you to safely shift transmission gears.
To properly engage and disengage the clutch, the driver is given access to it through the clutch pedal. The driver disengages the clutch by stepping on the pedal, and engages it by releasing the clutch pedal. The pressure on the clutch pedal is conveyed to the actual clutch unit either mechanically or hydraulically. In the actual clutch unit, a lot of other things happen. For the typical disengagement process, a release fork pushes a throw-out bearing, which in turn would push to a diaphragm spring. The diaphragm spring is connected to the clutch’s pressure plate by studs. Once the diaphragm spring is pushed, the pressure plate would be forced to bend, decreasing the pressure it once had over the clutch plate, which in turn is connected to the engine’s flywheel.
BMW manual transmission equipped vehicles would not be widely praised for their performance have they not been equipped with a properly working clutches. Once a BMW gets off from the assembly line and reaches your local dealer’s showroom, it is guaranteed to be equipped with high quality and high performance clutches. But no matter how good your BMW clutch is, it is still subject to damage and wearing out. The most common damages in a clutch are worn-out clutch discs and worn-out throw-out bearings.
Whether it is the clutch disc or the throw-out bearing that gets worn out on your BMW clutch, Parts Train is sure to have all the replacements for these parts that you need. Here at Parts Train, we maintain a stock of the different BMW clutch parts that you may need.
