Audi Clutch

In order for your Audi to have great performance on the road, it should have high-end and complete sets of parts and systems needed inside its powerhouse. And in this case, your Audi must have functional and durable cooling system, fuel system, fuel delivery, intake system, transmission, etc. Now, all these systems must have top notched components for great horsepower and mileage. For the transmission, it should have three shafts; the mainshaft, the idler shaft and the countershaft. The mainshaft is where important transmission gears and the clutch ride.

The clutch, along with the gears, in the mainshaft is an essential component of your vehicle since it is designed to help the entire transmission to function and render the kind of performance that you most want. Basically, your Audi clutch is designed to allow gradual engine power application whenever your Audi is starting. Also, it is designed to interrupt the engine power when you are shifting so to avoid your gears being chomped. Your clutch is also responsible in allowing power transfer from the vehicle’s engine to the drive wheels and transmission.

Clutch, just like other mechanisms in your vehicles, has several components. These are the clutch disc, the flywheel, the throw-out bearing and the pressure plate. The clutch disc is the steel plate in your clutch that is covered with frictional materials and located between the pressure plate and flywheel. On the other hand, the flywheel is that large disc made of either steel or aluminum and is bolted to the engine’s crankshaft. It acts as a engine vibration damper, balancer, etc and is designed to transfer torque from the vehicle’s engine to the transmission.

Now, the throw-out bearing is considered as the heart of the vehicle’s clutch and its operation. It is the one responsible for making movements that interrupts power flow. While pressure plate, also called a spring-loaded “clamp” in the clutch, is attached to the flywheel and release clamping force as you’ve disengaged your clutch. This pressure plate is composed of things such as heavy release springs, sheetmetal cover, metal pressure ring, release levers and thrust rings.

Since everyday you need to use your Audi clutch, there’s a great chance that it might fail after some times. And in this case, you will need to replace it. Some signs of a failing clutch are engaging and disengaging of your clutch near the floorboard, clutch pedal that moves easily but transmission won’t go into gear, clutch slip, grinding transmission during shifting, clutch chatter, etc. Whatever of these signs you experienced with your Audi clutch, be sure to have it immediately checked and replaced.

There are different designs of clutches available in the automotive market for you and depending on the specs of your Audi vehicle; you can get any of them. You can have a wet clutch, dry clutch or dual-friction clutch. Here at Parts Train, you’ll have wide array of selections when it comes to Audi clutch replacements.
