Saturn Brake Rotors |
Sunblock lotion – check, foods and drinks – check, your two- piece skimpy bathing suit – check, car keys – check, full tank Saturn - check. Now you are ready to head off to the beach. But wait did someone remember to check on the brakes? Who cares the beach is just a few minutes away? Nothing could possible go wrong in such a short distance. Do you honestly believe nothing can happen? Think again. Your life is on the line even on short distance travels when your brakes are worn out. Most accidents happen when you least expect it so it always pay to have a fully functioning brake system before heading off the road.
As a Saturn owner you have to be aware of how important brakes are. You have to understand that without a sound brake system you might as well take the bus or walk home. The brake system consists of several parts each assigned to perform a specific task. One of these parts is the brake rotor, assigned to take in and dispel heat. The caliper receives the pressure produced by the master cylinder. Upon receiving such pressure the caliper grips the brake rotor and produces a force that transforms energy into heat. You might ask, where does the heat go? The answer is simple – to the rotor. The rotor then disperses this heat. If it is important to take out the exhaust gases from your motor, then it is just as important to remove the heat from your brake system.
Brake rotors basically disperse heat from the brake system through two methods – volumetric displacement and thermal dissipation. With volumetric displacement the rotor uses its size to suck up heat. So, the larger your rotor, the better it dissipates heat. With thermal dissipation the rotor act as a pump and transport air to the center of the rotor. Doing so, the temperature is lowered and the brake system remains at required temperature.
But no matter how good your brake rotor is, it will still deteriorate one of these days. It is, thus, vital that you check on the rotors from time to time. Make sure that they are functioning perfectly. It the rotors shows sign of wear, consider replacing them immediately. Drop by your mechanic and let them do the inspection and replacement of your brake rotor.
