Honda Brake Rotors

The Honda brake rotor is a flat disk-like plate that is attached to the wheels and serves as the friction surface in a disc brake. It is sandwiched between the brake pads which are being held by the brake calipers. The Honda brake rotor is usually made of iron with highly machined surface for a smooth contact with the brake pads. Some rotors are called “vented” rotors because of the cooling fins that are mounted between its faces. The stopping action starts when the fluid from the master cylinder is forced into the brake caliper were it presses against a piston. This piston squeezes the brake pads against the brake rotor forcing the wheels to slow down or stop.

The Honda rotor wears out over time and usually its surface becomes uneven due to the constant rubbing against the brake pads. This uneven surface must be smoothed to allow an even contact with the brake pads. However, only small amount can be machined off the surface of the brake rotor since it will not be able to bear the heat produced if it is cut below the minimum thickness.
