A reliable Geo brake system is nothing without a Geo brake rotor. The Geo brake rotor is one of the components of a disc brake that rotates with the wheels and is squeezed by the brake caliper and brake pads which then creates friction and converts the energy of the moving vehicle into heat. Furthermore, it is a flat disc like plate that serves as the friction surface in a disc brake. The Geo brake rotor is sandwiched between the brake pads which are clamped by the brake calipers.

The chain reaction of the components of the Geo brake system starts when you step on the brake pedal. The hydraulic fluid pressure is applied to the brake calipers that will cause the brake pads to be squeezed against the Geo brake rotors. As the brake pads are pressed against the Geo brake rotor friction and heat is produced. To endure the heat and friction produced, the Geo brake rotor like any other brake rotors are commonly made out of a material called grey iron.

Due to frequent squeezing of the brake pads or the normal wearing, the Geo brake rotors can have uneven or high spot on the surface. If this happens, the brake pads will be able to “grab” the Geo brake rotor completely thus, affecting the stopping ability of your Geo vehicle. The Geo brake rotor also warps due to worn out brake pads that grind the brake rotor causing cuts to its surface. The so called “truing process” can be done to correct brake rotor warping. This process involves shaving off a small layer from Geo brake rotor’s surface to make it smooth and even again.
