Braking system comes in two kinds – the drum braking system and the disc braking system. The first uses a metal cylinder called brake drum as its main component, while the second uses a flat, disc-like plate called brake disc or brake rotor as its main component. A brake disc like the Triumph brake disc is the component to which the brake pads are being clamped by the brake caliper to produce friction. Whenever the driver steps on the brake pedal, a hydraulic pressure drives the caliper in a clamping motion to press the pads against both surface of the disc to create friction that will be used to convert the vehicle’s forward motion or kinetic energy into heat energy, thus causing the wheels to slow down or stop its rotation.
In the course of the constant use of the brakes, the pads gradually wear out and fade. As such, immediate replacement of worn out or faded pads is a must to keep the brakes efficient and reliable. And usually, the disc is also machined off to remove glazed surface as a result of the regular use during the pads replacement process. When a warped disc is machined off, the pulsation is also removed to ensure the brakes’ efficiency and reliability. The two most common brake disc problems are the warping and cracking. Such problems can only be addressed by having it machined, off but causing the disc to decrease its thickness resulting to a tugging feel every time you step on the pedal.
