Instead, a seal around the piston twists vaguely when the brakes are applied and then withdraws to pull the piston back away from the rotor when the brake pedal is discharged. Additionally, brake discs depend on a very small amount of vibration called runout. The runout of the rotor will simply push the pads away from the rotor when the brakes are disengaged.
