Land Rover Range Rover Brake Disc

The braking system in any vehicle is considered one of the most important systems. Well, considering that any malfunction can be dangerous or fatal for the occupants of the vehicle, the brake system should and must be given the best care and maintenance. The different parts of the brake system all work together and any failure of one part can affect the whole system. Once you step on the brake pedal, it will push the plunger into the master cylinder causing the release of the brake fluid. Through the system of hoses and tubes the brake fluid would flow towards the brake disc and start the braking process the different components will undergo.

The component of the braking system that does the actual work of stopping the vehicle is the brake disc. The brake disc is composed of several components such as the brake pads, the caliper which contains the piston and the brake rotor which is mounted on the hub. It is usually made of cast-iron or ceramic and is connected to the wheel or the axle. The whole component of the brake disc work hand in hand to function efficiently. When the brake fluid is released it is because the plunger has been pushed into the master cylinder. This brake fluid is forced towards the caliper which then presses the piston. In turn, the piston squeezes the brake pads which are attached to the wheel and clamps on it to stop the rotation.

The brake disc is somewhat like the brake on the bicycle. Only in the case of the bicycles, they do not have brake rotors but rather they have the brake caliper press the brake pad directly against the wheel and the force is transmitted by the cable. On automobiles, there are brake disks and the calipers, pads and rotor that work simultaneously in order to stop the wheel. And in this case of the brake disc, the brake pads squeeze the rotor instead of the wheel and this is caused by the friction between the pad and the rotors. The brake disc is actually used for the front and the rear utilizes the brake drums. The brake discs are more expensive to make than brake drums. In the case of the brake drums, the brake shoes are pushed once the fluid is forced into the wheel cylinder. This causes the friction linings to be forced against the drum that are directly attached to the wheel and causes it to stop.
