Dodge Brake Disc

Once an automobile starts to run and gain its momentum, stopping of which will be hard especially when the vehicle is gaining more speed, unless with the use of a reliable and efficient brakes. A brake is a device used for slowing down or stopping the motion of an automobile and prevents it from starting to move again. Brakes work by converting the kinetic energy that was lost by the moving part into heat through friction, or the force that opposes the relative motion or tendency of such motion of two surfaces in contact. But how does friction in brakes occurs?

Friction in brakes occurs depending upon the kind of braking system that your vehicle has. An automobile may either be equipped with a drum braking system, which is commonly seen on older vehicles, or a disc braking system, which is newer in design and more efficient as compared to the other. Friction in drum brakes occurs when the driver steps on the brake pedal, a certain mechanism generates pressure against the metal cylinder called brake drum, thus, friction is created to stop or slow down the vehicle’s motion. On the other, hand, friction in disc brakes occurs when the driver steps on the brake pedal, a device called caliper that hold the brake pads, forces the pads against the rotors thereby transforming the vehicle’s forward energy into heat and friction that slows down or stops the vehicle’s motion.

Most automobiles nowadays are equipped with disc brake because it is more powerful, more reliable and more efficient than the yesteryears’ drum brakes. Significant feature of the disc braking system is the use of a brake disc or brake rotors instead of the brake drums. This brake disc like the Dodge brake disc is the component to which the brake pads through the caliper are mechanically, hydraulically and pneumatically pressed against with. Moreover, brake discs’ design varies to address the different needs of car enthusiasts. Some are simply solidly iron-cast, while others are hollowed out with fins joining together the disc’s two contact surfaces. The latter is popularly known as ventilated discs which help in dissipating heat and prevent the disc from warping. There are also those which are called slotted or drilled discs which are perfect for race cars.
