Much as performance and horsepower are greatly desired for any vehicle, so is braking efficiency. Stopping among automobiles is not an option; it is a necessity. Without the ability to stop, all the power generated by the engine will not be put into any good use. With this in mind, you surely know the importance of the braking system, as well as its various components, in your Daihatsu.
The braking system is composed of various parts and is generally categorized into two: the disc brakes and the drum brakes. The disc brakes are the more popular and widely used, either in all four wheels or in the front wheels. Every disc brake is composed of a brake disc, also called the brake rotor. These are disc-like components with two opposite surfaces that provide a clamping area for the brake pads. The clamping action, the contact between the pads and the rotors’ surface, generates friction, which is the primary element that is responsible for stopping.
The clamping that happens between the pads and the rotors determines the efficiency of every stop. The tighter the grip of the pad into the brake disc, the greater amount of friction is generated and the more efficient the stop. This is greatly determined by the rotors’ surface. The smoother and more leveled the surface, the more efficient the clamping. However, too much braking heat may cause the rotors’ surface to soften. When this happens, some of the materials in its surface may be transferred into the pads whenever the two establish contact. Over time, the surface may become deformed, a condition called warping. This greatly reduces braking efficiency.
When you find out that the stock rotors in your Daihatsu are already warping, you may choose to have them resurfaced. This process will remove a little portion of the rotors’ surface to make them level and flat again. However, this may sacrifice the rotors’ structural integrity, making them weaker. For the greatest assurance of efficiency and safety, getting new brake rotors is advised. Parts Train is the leading source of brake discs and other braking components for various Daihatsu models. We carry high quality rotors to keep your every stop safe and efficient.
