The two kinds of braking system available for an automobile are the drum braking system which is used in older automobiles and in the rear wheels of some newer ones, and the disc braking system which is newer in design and more efficient and reliable as compared to the former. Conversely, a disc braking system functions when the driver steps on the brake pedal, the brake cable will trigger the brake caliper to press the brake pads against the disc-like plate called brake rotor (or brake disc) to generate friction that will transform the vehicle’s forward motion into and will cause the vehicle to slow down or stop.
