When the exhaust gasses are locked and compressed in the exhaust manifold and cylinder, the emissions’ energy of pushing the vehicle or back pressure is overpowered by the negative torque created by the compressed exhaust gasses causing it to slow down and eventually stop. And the hybrid units equipped with internal combustion engines feature the so called engine brake system legally known as compression braking.
