“safety before”, “safety during”, and “safety after”—these are column headings that you’ll encounter whenever you visit the “safety matters” section of the Chevrolet website. The said section reveals Chevrolet’s commitment to protect their consumers at all time. Chevrolet vehicles are not only equipped with safety equipments that can keep you safe from harm during collisions and accidents (as stated in the “safety during” column), they are also equipped with parts that can keep you away from the cause of these collisions and accidents (as listed in the “safety before” column). Chevrolet’s commitment to protecting their customers even extends beyond the accident scene, as can be seen on the “safety after” column.

Probably the best way to protect yourself from the harm of collisions and accidents is to stay away from it, and Chevrolet is well aware of this. For this reason, Chevrolet has equipped their vehicles with a lot of safety features that can make driving safer. Among the new safety equipments available for every Chevrolet vehicle are the Antilock Brake System (ABS), StabiliTrak, Traction Control, Daytime Running Lamps, Driver Information Center, and the Onstar Satellite Radio. But these equipments are just additions to the other standard safety equipments that all Chevrolet vehicles are already equipped with. Among the many other standard safety features installed in every Chevrolet vehicle are the Chevrolet backup lights.

Backup lights refer to the lights mounted at the rear end of a vehicle that lights as a warning to those behind the vehicle. These lights are connected to a backup circuit, which in turn is connected to the manual or automatic transmission of a vehicle. The backup lights are only energized when either transmission is shifted to reverse gear and for this reason, they are also interchangeably referred to as backing lights or reverse lights.

Designed only to warn those behind your vehicle of your intention to back up, stock Chevy backup lamps don’t shed too much light. Often, this low level light is not enough to illuminate everything behind your vehicle, especially the objects that may damage your Chevy. For greater visibility at the rear end of your Chevy, it is recommended that you also equip it with Chevy backup floodlights. Backup floodlights generate more light to keep everything behind your vehicle clearly visible.
