An AC compressor is akin to a human heart because both serve as a pumping component of the liquid refrigerant and blood, respectively for the system where they work. The AC compressor works for the automobile’s cooling system, while the heart works for the human body’s circulatory system. Nevertheless, the AC compressor is definitely one of the most important parts of your car’s cooling system. Together with other parts like the – the blower housing, blower motor, compressor pulley, compressor, condenser, defroster vent, evaporator, expansion valve, heater core, high pressure line, low pressure line passenger air intake, receiver-dryer and vent, the AC compressor makes your ride such a pleasurable, comfortable and convenient one through the air conditioning system.

Basically, compressors are used to move liquid refrigerant around the pipe by pumping or forcing the liquid from the evaporator into a condenser and expansion valve and back to the evaporator. The compressor is being driven by the engine through a belt taking the low pressure refrigerant from the evaporator and compresses it according to speed and air temperature. Compressors have an inlet side also known as the low pressure side and the outlet side also known as the high pressure side. By compressing the refrigerant, compressors raises the temperature higher than that of the surrounding air, and creates the cool ambience inside your car. You can find three common types of compressors and these are the two cylinder reciprocating piston type, the four cylinder RADIAL type, and the six cylinder AXIAL type. Whichever type of compressor you use, you have to take note and keep in perfect condition of these parts – compressor clutch, AC compressor drive ring, condenser, evaporator, expansion valve, discharge or suction service valves, compressor relay, electric air conditioning fan and compressor belt to ensure efficient and high compressor function.
