Luxury vehicles are not meant to cause discomfort and reliable cars are equipped with parts that are not meant to wear-off easily. So if the air conditioning system of your Acura is already performing poorly, you must suspect a damage rather than simple parts deterioration. And if this poor performance is accompanied by too much noise under the dash, especially one that sounds like a belt slipping, and a burning smell coming from the clutch, then it probably is the Acura AC compressor that got damaged.
The Acura AC compressor may be considered as the central part, or the heart, of your Acura's AC system. Basically, it is a mechanical pump driven by a belt attached to the vehicle's engine. Whenever the engine is running, an electro-magnetic clutch, called the AC clutch, may engage or disengage the compressor's belt to the engine on the command of the AC system. Once engaged, the AC compressor begins with its function.
The primary function of the Acura AC compressor is to compress hot refrigerant gas and control the flow of this gas throughout the Acura AC system. Positioned at the logical center of the air conditioning system, the compressor takes in low-pressure refrigerant gas from the lower-pressure side (also called suction side) of the system, which is basically made up of the evaporator and the receiver-drier. Inside the compressor, this gas is compressed into a high pressure and high temperature gas before it is discharged to the condenser, which is a major part of the AC system's high pressure side. After the refrigerant is cooled in the condenser, it would then be forced back to the evaporator, thus forming a closed loop.
If the AC compressor is malfunctioning, there's no way for the refrigerant to circulate properly throughout the vehicle's AC system. If this happens, the AC system of your Acura won't be able to cool the interiors of the vehicle, making it extremely uncomfortable for passengers especially during summers. Sometimes, however, such problems can only be blamed on us. Keeping the refrigerant level unchecked and using an improper lubricant for the vehicle are the most common causes of AC compressor failure, and these things can be blamed on nothing but our own negligence.
So if your Acura's AC compressor has been greatly damaged because of your own fault, better give it more attention next time.
